  We kicked-off Heart Month with a Staff Appreciation Lunch at North Shore Hospital on February 11th!   With the help of Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, five wonderful volunteers from MuleSoft helped bring light to 87 pediatric patients at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital on December 12th. Families filled their Harboring Hearts tote bags with crafts: the Chewbacca puppet, lightsaber glowsticks, Yoda popsicle stick puppets, Yoda and Darth Vader coloring sheets, and painted Star Wars-themed planters to bloom over the next few weeks. With over 100 guests in attendance, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore celebrated at their Pediatric Heart Transplant 10th Year Anniversary Party on June 27th! Our amazing volunteers, from the Nike Store in New York City, our board members, junior board members, and Harboring Hearts volunteers, all had a special hand in bringing smiles to the faces of pediatric heart transplant patients and their families – THANK YOU! On June 7th, volunteers from Deloitte participated in their company’s Impact Day with Harboring Hearts. Sixteen Deloitte employees spent the afternoon at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital helping Harboring Hearts bring joy to pediatric heart patients! The volunteers prepared 25 care packages, creating fun and inspiring crafts for the patients that included: inspirational photo frames, colorful bead suncatchers, newly planted flower pots, and beautiful stone magnets decorated with words of hope.  They also provided delicious lunches from Fresh Direct for the
On April 24, Sola, along with her sister, aunt, and parents, enjoyed a magical, musical day in New York City. The day began with a family photo shoot outside the famous Minskoff Theatre, where many fun and beautiful photographs were taken. Next, the family enjoyed lunch at Kodama Sushi, indulging Sola’s love for Japanese foods. Sola and her family returned to Minskoff Theatre where they saw The Lion King! On May 21, pediatric patients and their caregivers at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital took a magic carpet ride to an Aladdin-themed Heart Party!  Fifty-six participants attended the party alongside Aladdin himself! With the help of 10 wonderful volunteers from MuleSoft, the patients and caregivers crafted magic carpets, wishing lamps with wish stones, and Jafar hats! On April 9th at North Shore University Hospital, 35 patients and caregivers attended a LVAD and Heart Transplant Support Group. The evening began with warm introductions from around the packed room which included cardiologists, attending cardiac-physicians, cardiac surgeons, heart transplant and LVAD coordinators, pharmacists, social workers, and nutritionists alike. In February, we celebrated our Harboring Hearts family through various hospital events, fundraising events, and community collaborations. Annual Pediatric Cardiology Valentine’s Reunion at Mount Sinai Hospital – With the help of our volunteers from Mulesoft and our Junior Board, caregivers and patients alike brought out their creative side as they made beaded hearts and inspirational hearts of kindness for this annual heart celebration.
