Game Show of Love with Lucky Forks: GiveMe5

On February 13th we hosted a Game Show of Love! Our Game Show host for the evening was Dr. Nisha Jhalani, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and Director of Inpatient Clinical Services for the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy at NYP/Columbia University Medical Center.

The questions were heart health specific and ranged from easy to challenging. Our lively contestants were challenged by quite a few tough questions. Thank you to the 6 companies who participated in the GiveMe5 Initiative with Lucky Forks Harboring Hearts this Heart Month. Your support will help create lifelong memories for heart patients and their families during our Hope 4 Hearts Days in 2020!

Kicking Off Heart Month at North Shore University Hospital



We kicked-off Heart Month with a Staff Appreciation Lunch at North Shore Hospital on February 11th! Thanks to the generous support of our corporate sponsor, we provided meals to over 25 cardiac staff members. That same evening, 33 heart families attended a special dinner and support group at Luigi’s Restaurant. To the entire North Shore University Hospital team, THANK YOU for your dedication, commitment and for the care you give to your patients and their families.

Thank you to Luigi’s Restaurant for catering to both meals and providing such delicious food and dessert. Thank you to Jackie, our junior board member, who attended the support group.

A Star Wars-themed Heart Party with MuleSoft



With the help of Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, five wonderful volunteers from MuleSoft helped bring light to 87 pediatric patients at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital on December 12th. Families filled their Harboring Hearts tote bags with crafts: the Chewbacca puppet, lightsaber glowsticks, Yoda popsicle stick puppets, Yoda and Darth Vader coloring sheets, and painted Star Wars-themed planters to bloom over the next few weeks. In addition to the crafts, the Child Life team provided toys, lunch, and cookies to all who attended our heart party. Thank you to Ana and the entire Child Life team at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, to DJ Intake and for your partnership and continued support!


Thank you to our MuleSoft volunteers for supporting our final Heart Party of 2019. Thank you for bringing such warm energy, compassion, and light to our patients and their caregivers. May the force be with you as we head into 2020!


A Fall Feast with Deloitte at The Mount Sinai Hospital


At The Mount Sinai Hospital on October 15th, four dynamic Deloitte volunteers served meals to 25 pediatric families during our Fall Feast. As families arrived for the meal, they were greeted by our volunteers and as they left, they have gifted a craft made by Deloitte volunteers, a gift of tissues, chapstick, and hand sanitizer to brave the changing weather that October has brought us!




A huge THANK YOU to our partners at Fields Good Chicken! We ordered a fall-themed menu of food which was a hit from the cornbread to the mac and cheese! Thank you to our cardiac social workers who helped to make this day possible for the families! Thank you to the doctors and staff who shared in the meal! THANK YOU to Deloitte for granting our fall wish and giving hope to hearts everywhere. Happy Fall!



Celebrating with the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore

Harboring Hearts 10 years Montefiore Children Hospital Heart Transplant Program

With over 100 guests in attendance, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore celebrated at their Pediatric Heart Transplant 10th Year Anniversary Party on June 27th! Our amazing volunteers, from the Nike Store in New York City, our board members, junior board members, and Harboring Hearts volunteers, all had a special hand in bringing smiles to the faces of pediatric heart transplant patients and their families – THANK YOU!

Dreamcatchers decorated the space and provided the theme for our crafts. In addition to creating dreamcatchers, children made Rain Sticks, Sand Bottles, Dripping Salt Paintings, and PomPom artwork. They also took away balloon animals and special prizes thanks to your partners at!

Deloitte Impact Day: Care Packages for Pediatric Patients

On June 7th, volunteers from Deloitte participated in their company’s Impact Day with Harboring Hearts. Sixteen Deloitte employees spent the afternoon at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital helping Harboring Hearts bring joy to pediatric heart patients!

The volunteers prepared 25 care packages, creating fun and inspiring crafts for the patients that included: inspirational photo frames, colorful bead suncatchers, newly planted flower pots, and beautiful stone magnets decorated with words of hope.  They also provided delicious lunches from Fresh Direct for the patients’ families.

The room was absolutely filled with joy and bright smiles! Thank you to all of the Deloitte volunteers who partnered with Harboring Hearts and made this impactful day at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital a success!


Sola’s Hope 4 Hearts Day

On April 24, Sola, along with her sister, aunt, and parents, enjoyed a magical, musical day in New York City. The day began with a family photo shoot outside the famous Minskoff Theatre, where many fun and beautiful photographs were taken. Next, the family enjoyed lunch at Kodama Sushi, indulging Sola’s love for Japanese foods. Sola and her family returned to Minskoff Theatre where they saw The Lion King! The family had an “excellent, exhilarating, and entertaining” day!

A big and special thank you to Disney, The Lion King actors and actresses, and Kodama Sushi, for helping to make Sola’s first Broadway show, one she has dreamed of seeing her whole life, so memorable!

Morgan Stanley Heart Party

On May 21, pediatric patients and their caregivers at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital took a magic carpet ride to an Aladdin-themed Heart Party!  Fifty-six participants attended the party alongside Aladdin himself! With the help of 10 wonderful volunteers from MuleSoft, the patients and caregivers crafted magic carpets, wishing lamps with wish stones, and Jafar hats! It was a fantastic afternoon of music and smiles!

VAD/Transplant Support Group at North Shore University Hospital

On April 9th at North Shore University Hospital, 35 patients and caregivers attended a LVAD and Heart Transplant Support Group. The evening began with warm introductions from around the packed room which included cardiologists, attending cardiac-physicians, cardiac surgeons, heart transplant and LVAD coordinators, pharmacists, social workers, and nutritionists alike. Patients and caregivers shared their hopes and fears and connected with each other while enjoying heart healthy food and small gifts from Harboring Hearts.


Northwell Support Group

Thank you to Russ Tisman for sharing his transplant journey with the group. Thank you  to Yajaira Garay from Capital One Bank who helped make 30 Care Packages which included an Inspirational frame and Magnets of Hope. Lastly, a huge Thank you to the entire North Shore University Hospital cardiac team who brought together such an inspiring group of heart patients, caregivers and supporters!

Harboring Hearts Celebrates Heart Month 2019!

We are so grateful for our patients, families, hospital partners, volunteers, donors, and supporters! In February, we celebrated our Harboring Hearts family through various hospital events, fundraising events, and community collaborations.

Annual Pediatric Cardiology Valentine’s Reunion at Mount Sinai Hospital – With the help of our volunteers from Mulesoft and our Junior Board, caregivers and patients alike brought out their creative side as they made beaded hearts and inspirational hearts of kindness for this annual heart celebration. Thank you Mulesoft for your partnership and for such extraordinary volunteers joining us!


CHAM Heart Transplant Reunion: Montefiore

Annual Pediatric Reunion Heart Party at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore – With the help of two magicians and 8 volunteers from Capital One Bank, over 130 heart patients, and caregivers made arts and crafts, took photos in the photo booth, and danced the evening with away. We are grateful for your support Capital One!

Community Collaborations:

Thank you to Veronica Beard Gives Back for such an amazing partnership! Within the month of February, $10 from every online purchase through Veronica Beard was donated to Harboring Hearts. Demi Grace, HH supporter, singer, and caregiver to her mother, joined this campaign to help raise awareness about the role caregivers plan in the health journey of their loved one. Thank you, Demi and VBGB!

Thank you to Karen owner of First Wind Cycling and Fitness in Charlotte, North Carolina. On February 26th, she hosted a spin class in honor of Heart Month for Harboring Hearts. It was a great way for participants to give back and keep their heart healthy at the same time!


Thank you to Bloomingdale’s Soho for hosting our “Love Your Heart” Panel Discussion and Shopping Event on February 21st! With the help of our moderator and wonderful panelists, guests learned from experts of ways they could keep their heart a bit healthier this year while using their consumer dollars for good!

Thank you to Nike Soho, Holly Rilinger (Nike Master Trainer) and Nate “Tiny” Archibald (NBA Hall of Famer, Boston Celtics) for your support as we celebrated our patients and families during our Annual Family Fun Day celebration on February 28th! Six of our pediatric patients and their families came together to celebrate their heart journeys!
