Pediatric Liver Transplant Patient Aaliyah and Her Family

Aaliyah is a pediatric liver transplant patient at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and received her new liver in February of 2023. While recovering from her transplant, her family’s social worker reached out to Harboring Hearts about a Hope 4 Hearts Day to celebrate Aaliyah’s recovery.

Hope 4 Hearts Days are one of our emotional support programs where our team here at Harboring Hearts plans and provides a family with a day full of activities in NYC! This is to celebrate a recovered patient and their family after the long process of getting their loved one to where they’re at today.

Aaliyah and her family had such a nice time during the day! They went to the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, went to Chipotle for lunch, went to the American Museum of Natural History, and rounded off the day with some ice cream.

The kids loved the Children’s Museum of Manhattan where they all got to play fun games together, ride tricycles, and go on different stages! The family had a fulfilling meal at Chipotle for lunch and then headed over to the American Museum of Natural History. The family loved learning about the astronaut’s journey to space and got to see pictures of when they first went to the moon! They also got to learn about hearts and the way they work.

Aaliyah’s brother really enjoyed the Natural History museum and the dinosaur fossils too! He gave his family an explanation on how they form and had a great time seeing all the dinsoaur bones.

Aaliyah’s mom was so grateful for the Hope 4 Hearts Day we provided for them. She said it, “gave them better memories of New York rather than the unpleasant memories of her daughter’s health scare.” She is so grateful to our sponsors and her daughter’s liver donor!
