National Donor Day

February 14 is not only Valentine’s Day but National Donor Day! National Donor Day is a time to spread awareness and education around the lifesaving power of organ donation.

This National Donor Day we want to honor Officer Mora, an NYPD officer gunned down during a domestic violence call in January. Officer Mora went on to save five lives, even after his death because of his and his family’s generosity in organ donation. Officer Mora made the decision to become an organ donor during his lifetime, ensuring that he was able to give the gift of life despite his tragic passing.

Donors are able to offer their neighbor’s one last act of love through their decision. Every donor can save up to 8 lives and impact 50 others with their organ and tissue donation.

LiveOnNY acts as the Organ Procurment Organization (OPO) for transplant recipients in the New York area. OPO’s facilitate organ donation through the recovery, assessment, and transportation of organs. LiveOnNY encourage every American to register as an organ and tissue donor today. In New York alone there are over 10,000 people waiting to receive a transplant, and every 18 hours someone in New York dies on the transplant waiting list. Becoming a donor allows us to actively participate in changing these statistics, living on through the lives saved by our donations.

Officer Mora continues to live on through the five lives he has saved and countless others he has impacted. We thank him for his generosity and encourage everyone to honor him by registering to save lives and become a donor.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
